Mean Streak

The classic millennial problem: pay your rent or pay for brunch?

Slave away at a desk job that barely makes the bills or slave away in the gig economy, where you get to be your “own boss” after you give your actual boss 25% of what you make? Try to pay off your student loans or hope global warming wipes out humanity and your debt along with it?

Meet Angel & Denise. Two girls trying their best to figure it out and live the LA lifestyle of their Instagram peers. After losing their jobs and with rent looming over their heads, the girls decide to get creative in order to make money - they decide to find a sugar daddy.

Unfortunately, the night of easy money goes wrong fast. The guy that they’ve chosen is an insane drug addict and a wanted man. Angel and Denise accidentally “take care” of him for the ones who are after him and are offered a new job - become hit women for one of the most powerful drug lords in Los Angeles.

It’s not the worst job they’ve been offered in LA.

The script follows Angel and Denise as they learn how to become the millennial Jason Bournes of their dreams. They find themselves entangled in a drug conspiracy that is targeting one of societies most vulnerable and impressionable groups - millennials.

Not only must Angel and Denise save their generation but they must find themselves along the way and ask themselves the ever present question - What would you do for money?

Mean Streak is a deeply personal story to us. Not because we have ever become assassins, but because we have experienced the “classic” millennial dilemma that plagues this generation.

While living in Los Angeles as 22 year olds, working 40+ hours a week, commuting an hour and a half each way and still living pay check to pay check, the question of how to make more money with less effort was frequently popping into our heads. Thus the characters of Angel & Denise were born and the story of Mean Streak began to take shape.

Mean Streak was a winner of LiveRead/LA in April 2019 and we got to see the first 30 pages of the script come to life with professional actors. We received amazing feedback from the audience and industry insiders at the event that helped shape the trajectory of the script.

Always girls who are ready to get our hands dirty, we decided to shoot a quick Proof of Concept for the script starring two of our favorite characters we’ve ever written - Angel & Denise. Working with some incredible creatives we befriended in the Bay Area, we star in this five minute short that fully captures the essence of the characters and the tone of Mean Streak.

We are so proud of this script and can’t wait to see where it goes.
